I've started this blog post so many times and never finished. So much has happened over the last 6 weeks, it's hard to know where to start and what to share.
For starters this is what our house looked like on June 1st.
We woke up at 2am to our river unexpectedly overflowing due to 5" of rain falling on saturated soil upstream from us.
But that's only the beginning. A few weeks later Minot experienced a devastating flood making our flood look like nothing. Where we had water just fill our basement and saturate the main floor carpets, I have many friends who had water up to their roofs. Our water came up and was back down within 2-3 days. The water is still going down in Minot. People are beginning to post pictures to Facebook of their homes and the damage is unbelievable. What a mess.
We are getting our lives back together at our house. Carpet is back in and cleaned. I just got my laundry room back yesterday (still needs new flooring but it's usable, can you imagine 6 weeks and 4 boys without a laundry room!). I'm hoping to get ship shape quickly so we can offer help in town.
My garden plans are ka-put. The potato bed survived and that's about it :-( I should have joined the CSA.
