I am having so much fun knitting lace doilies. It seems like the ultimate grandmotherly type thing to make, but they are sooo pretty and fun to knit. Does the fact that they are knit out of my hand-dyed bamboo make them hipper? These are both going to be mounted and framed. One is for my mom and the other is for my sister-in-law (they don't read my blog, so I'm safe, I hope). I think I might make one for my mother-in-law as well. They are actually pretty quick to knit up, especially since I have a hard time putting one down. I just can't wait to see what comes next, almost like reading a good book.
These are actually my first completed projects using my bamboo! I've knit on my machines with it and have done a ton of swatches, but nothing else. The bamboo works so well in lace, it blocks magnificently and is so soft to work with. You just need to be mindful to not split the yarn while knitting with it. 1 skein, 550 is enough to make 3 doilies. I have another one on my needles that is a Christmas present for myself.
We're still snowed in and are expecting more snow Monday and Tuesday. I don't know if I'll be able to dig out and make it home to Minnesota for Christmas :-( The goats and chickens are all snug in the barn. It's been between -10 and -28 the past couple weeks, but they seem to not mind a bit.
